13th Should Be Required Viewing For All Americans

PLEASE!!!!!! Watch! Eye opening, tragic, true, fact based documentary that delves deeply into

Institutional racism is a pattern of social institutions — such as governmental organizations, schools, banks, and courts of law — giving negative treatment to a group of people based on their race.

Institutionalized discrimination refers to the unjust and discriminatory mistreatment of an individual or group of individuals by society and its institutions as a whole, through unequal selection or bias, intentional or unintentional; as opposed to individuals making a conscious choice to discriminate.

Here you will see what BLACK AMERICANS have known and lived through for over a Century. It took me 15 minutes after viewing this in-depth documentary about my peoples past to stop crying. The feelings of fear, anger, doubt, pain and dispair totally overwhelmed me. Ava DuVernay directed this film and did a superb job in explaining what we as Black Americans have to overcome. This is not a an attack on White America in the least, it is a look at what WE Have Had To Endure and Continue to Deal With. Once I began to settle down I then became ANGRY which I now know I will direct towards spreading the word on Black Lives Matter movement. But mostly I left with a feeling of PRIDE. Not sure how well this is going to go over but here’ why I say that..

  1. I was reminded more than ever that We as BLACK AMERICANS have always been beaten, raped, neglected, dehumanized, criminalized, imprisoned, poisoned, uneducated, misrepresented and demoralized and still WE ROSE! And continue to RISE despite the abuse and obstruction of an entire system put in place for over a Century. Don’t get me wrong I see we have a long way to go but still acknowledge the strength of my people to have gotten where we are now.
  2. I’m extremely PROUD of this BLACK, BEAUTIFUL, GRACEFUL, INTELLIGENT, STUNNING, DEEP THINKING, PROGRESSIVE, ELOQUENT, GENTLE SPIRITED woman AVA DuVERNAY

a.She first shows that BLACK beautiful, intelligent, critical thinking, progressive minds could not be stopped nor suppressed despite our past.

b. She also gives voice in a clear, concise, history based way so those outside of the BLACK COMMUNITY will finally see and understand without feeling attacked by our Century old plight.

c. She has explained the need and uprising of Dr. Martin Luther King, Civil Rights Movement, Affirmative Action, The First Black President, Angela Davis, Black Panthers and Black Lives Matter.

d. She also has finally given an exact answer to those in and outside of our race who always question “Why Our Community Is In Disarray?” or “Why There’s No Unity”

e. She has now given our Black youth and Millennials better understanding to their history as well as the seriousness of voting in this election. They no longer can sit back and just reap the benefits from our struggle but now participate and protect it.

d. Finally the main reason that I’m so PROUD of the work this woman does and did. I for months have been terrified and posting my fears since Trump slid down his GOLDEN Escalator like a snake to throw his hat in the ring on the platform of “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN”. Then witnessing Donald Trump drive a 1/4 of Americans to return to the times of which this documentary speaks. Let me add that 94% of Blacks knew exactly what he meant and she so eloquently threaded it all together. So I thank Ava DuVernay for shining a light on what could be a dangerous time for Americans but especially BROWN AMERICANS if Donald Trump gets elected.

3. As a child of the sixties, a 50 year portion of this documentary are my actual memories. I am also the mother of a soon to be 24 year old BLACK MALE who is terrified every time he walks out the door. And the last 10 years have been very reminiscent of our past #MakeAmericaGreatAgain The anxiety and threat of Donald Trump trying hard to create a race war and create a police state for Black and Brown communities should be closely examined. We need more good works like this piece and once again.. 13th Should Be Required Viewing For All Americans
